Environmental Science
Join the Environmental Science Club to take part in conservation projects with agencies like NParks and NEA, and develop the skills to live and lead sustainably.
The Environmental Science Club is a fun and dynamic CCA that explores Biodiversity, Conservation, and Sustainability through hands-on learning, design thinking, and school-wide leadership.
The club's activities are structured around 4 termly themes:
Term 1: Animal, Water & Energy Conservation
Term 2: Waste Management
Term 3: Biodiversity & Food Sustainability
Term 4: Sustainability and Staying Green
Key Activities & Experiential Learning
Hands-on Experiments & Workshops: Students tackle real-world challenges like climate change, habitat loss, and pollution through practical simulations. Activities include waste decomposition inquiry experiments, oil spill simulations, vermicomposting using earthworms, and banana peel enzyme production.
Design Thinking Upcycling Projects: Members use the design thinking process to build problem-solving skills by reimagining "waste." This year, they are challenged to build the tallest and sturdiest towers out of discarded items and cultivate vegetables using recycled eggshells and bottles.
Annual Projects & Leadership: Selected students can take an active role in school conservation efforts. Projects include conducting school biodiversity audits, designing conservation game boards, and participating in the National Environment Agency’s Project E.C.O.
External Learning Journeys: The club organises excursions to science- and environment-related venues such as Merck SPARK Lab and The Carbon Gallery, offering students first-hand exposure to green technology, renewable energy, and industrial recycling processes.
Through these combined experiences, members develop a deep appreciation for the planet while building crucial life skills like teamwork, responsibility, resilience, communication, and leadership, nurturing them to become informed, responsible, and environmentally conscious individuals who can contribute positively towards a more sustainable future.
